The City of Edinburgh has done everything it can to maximise car use in the city and - as far as possible - it has tried to wipe out cycling.
The only way it could make cycling less safe or convenient would be if it took money that might otherwise have been used to create a few segregated cycleways, and burned it - for example by installing, to no end, slippery steel grooves the exact width of bike tyres parallel to the direction of travel along all the city's main thoroughfares...which is actually what it plans to do.
